Nick Hewson

Profile

Nick is a market analyst and author who has a demonstrable history of initiating new markets and influencing change in existing ones. Nick is one of the handful of people considered to have established the CRM application area and, to some extent, the UK’s e-government strategy. As the head of a consulting company he managed projects that led to dramatic improvements in customer management with award winning outcomes for clients.

In the early 1990s Hewson Group was closely associated with Cranfield School of Management and the research the company carried out at the time had a critical influence on the future of customer management. Hewson’s analysis and conceptual ideas were a significant factor in the emergence of an IT application area now the biggest business application ever and worth $37bn pa according to Gartner.   Nick’s clients in the period 1995-2010 included SAP, Microsoft, Oracle, Symantec and Peoplesoft. He established a Europe-wide customer management club with Experian and a Benchmarking Group with PricewaterhouseCoopers.

Research into the Female Consumer

In recent years Nick has carried out well known research – Women Sex and Shopping – about the female consumer which observes that not only are women the most powerful consumers on Earth but also the most under-served commercially and too often forced into pragmatic accommodations that will prove unsatisfactory in future markets.   This research has featured in media from the Wall St Journal and BusinessWeek to the BBC, Marie Claire and Cosmopolitan and has been studied at a number of business schools.

Authoring and Speaking

Nick has spoken at conferences across the world and was at one time on the Editorial Board of two academic journals concerned with marketing.

M&A work, Market Due Diligence and Company Turn Around

Nick has worked for a number of US based IT companies and carried out Search and Acquisition work in Europe. He has also worked for Investment organisations such as 3i, HSBC and RBS on market due diligence, disposals and company turnarounds. He was involved in a highly regarded portfolio rationalisation with the successful disposal of assets for his clients.

Hewson Consulting Ltd and the CRM Blueprint

Nick was a director of Hewson Consulting Ltd, a consulting and project management company that operated under the Hewson brand. Hewson Consulting operated mainly in the years 1998-2002 and carried out the implementation of some of the most complex CRM projects then in existence. Nick developed the CRM Blueprint, a software based strategy tool, and eventually this software together with the consulting company was sold to Kainos – a Systems Integrator.

Education

Nick was educated at Oundle School and subsequently obtained an LLB at the University of North London.  He is a Freeman of the City of London.
